Discovered In Op Shop!!

It was one of those historical moments, when the discovery of an important piece of lost art is found in a chest in someone's great aunt's back room after the will reading.
My nearest and dearest found it and was so excited that he rang me expensively on the mobile phone. That's how excited he was.
It's very beautiful and excellently, deliberately painted.
$7.50 well spent!

So, is it signed? Is it, is it, is it?? Because it looks a little bit like a Charles Hammond.

Is it signed????

I should have looked further - it appears to be an unfinished work, without added background??? Has it been framed????

If unfinished it may not be signed, but it certainly screams Charles Hammond to me - he made a fair living as a racehorse painter in Melbourne, c.1910-1950ish. And he was somewhere around your area, so when there was a cleanup after his death some of his half-finished work might have been passed around.

No it's not signed. The painting has been lifted and put onto card too. Apparently that's not unusual. It's beautifully painted and is finished. We're going to take it to Deutcher-Menzies for a geek...but thanks, I'll look up Hammond...
